Streaming giant Netflix is flexing its own super powers and putting an immediate end to its “Luke Cage” series. Months after its season two premiere, the entertainment platform says the hip-hop-influenced show is done-done.

According to reports, Netflix isn’t thinking twice about bringing “Luke Cage” back for a third season.

“Unfortunately, ‘Marvel’s Luke Cage’ will not return for a third season. Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is grateful to the dedicated showrunner, writers, cast and crew who brought Harlem’s Hero to life for the past two seasons, and to all the fans who have supported the series,” Netflix and Marvel Television said in a joint statement. The series’ second season soundtrack treated hip-hop fans to new music from rap icon Rakim.

Season 2 of Netflix’s Luke Cage premiered on Friday and much like the first season, the show is backed by an excellent soundtrack which just so happens to include brand new music from the legendary Rakim. The song, “King’s Paradise” , produced by Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad who are also the show’s music supervisors, name drops Harlem greats like Malcolm X, Louis Armstrong, Lena Horne and the show’s titular character Luke Cage. Coincidentally, the initial “Luke Cage” season two trailer features Rakim’s “I Ain’t No Joke” classic.

For its latest season, “Luke Cage” had its episodes inspired after music from hip-hop veteran Pete Rock.

Last season, “Luke Cage” paid major homage to rap group Gang Starr.

The interpolation of classic rap music is nothing new for the Luke Cage series, last season each episode was named after Gang Starr songs. They also enlisted Method Man in a cameo role. In the eleventh episode, he passes Cage in a convenience store on his way to another errand. It’s unclear what Pete Rock & CL Smooth songs will be used in the forthcoming season of Luke Cage since the episode list has yet to be revealed. (All Black Media)
