As we approach the 20 year anniversary of the tragic death of the late, Aaliyah Haughton, Missy Elliott took the time to wish the singer a Happy Birthday.
“#HappyBDayAaliyah You Are Still Inspiring People! “Your edgyness & smooth dancing SO EFFORTLESS your UNIQUENESS & STYLE unmatched MUSICALLY your songs will 4EVER be NEXT LEVEL! RIP babygal 4Ever Loved,” Missy wrote on Twitter. Along with her birthday post, Missy posted a behind the scenes clip of the singer.
“I’ve always been someone who has had an affinity towards edgy things, towards the dark side. From Romeo to Queen of the Damned to The Matrix, they all kinda represent that for me. It’s very edgy, it’s unique, and it’s a little bit dark, and I like that in my music as well. So, I felt in taking a step into another genre that I wanted to do something that people could understand the flow with me and they know me that way in music so I thought this was the best way,” Aaliyah said in the clip.
In November there were reports that as a gift to fans for the singer’s birthday, fans would be able to stream Aaliyah’s music. The only songs on digital platforms come from her 1994, Age Aint Nothing But A Number album, featuring some of Aaliyah’s greatest hits like “Back and Forth,” “Age Aint Nothing But a Number,” “Down With The Clique,” and more. Let’s see if fans are still in for that surprise!
