The “Truth” tops the charts.
Lizzo earns her first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 as “Truth Hurts” rises from No. 3. The boost was due in part to her performance at the MTV Video Music Awards, where she sang a medley of “Truth Hurts” and “Good as Hell,” plus the release of the DaBaby remix and CID remix.
A grateful Lizzo celebrated the milestone on Twitter. “WE’RE NUMBER 1. THIS IS A W FOR ALL OF US,” she told her fans. “ANYBODY WHO EVER FELT LIKE THEY VOICE WASN’T HEARD. ANYBODY WHO FELT LIKE THEY WEREN’T GOOD ENOUGH. YOU ARE. WE ARE. CHAMPIONS. I LOVE YALL 3 MUCH. LIZZBIANS UNITE.”

“Truth Hurts” is the first rap No. 1 on the Hot 100 for an unaccompanied female since Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow (Money Moves),” which spent three weeks on top in October 2017. Lizzo becomes the sixth female rapper to reach No. 1 on the Hot 100 following Ms. Lauryn Hill (“Doo Wop (That Thing)”), Lil’ Kim (“Lady Marmalade”), Shawnna (“Stand Up”), Iggy Azalea (“Fancy”), and Cardi B (“Bodak Yellow”).

“Truth Hurts” was originally released in September 2017, but received renewed attention after being featured in the Netflix film Someone Great in April. It went on to appear on Lizzo’s 2019 album Cuz I Love You, which debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200.
