Kendrick Lamar and Big Sean’s rumored beef is back in the headlines.
On Friday (April 5), an unreleased snippet of a Kendrick track surfaced (via XXL), on which he appears to be taking shots at the Detroit MC. “I think his false confidence got him inspired / I can’t make them respect you baby, it’s not my job,” raps K-Dot on the 11-second clip. “You finally famous for who you date, not how you rhyme / Cute ass rhymes get your puberty up.”
While certainly up for speculation, the TDE rapper uses the phrase “finally famous,” which is the title of Sean’s Finally Famous mixtape series. Sean has also been romantically attached to several high-profile celebrities including Naya Rivera, Ariana Grande, and Jhené Aiko.
Kendrick and Sean were rumored to have beef following their 2013 collaboration “Control,” where K-Dot called out several MCs including Sean on his explosive verse. Since then, there has seemingly been friction between the two.
In a 2017 interview with “The Breakfast Club,” Sean maintained that he had the better “Control” verse over Kendrick. “No he didn’t. Stop it. Stop it,” he told Charlamagne Tha God when challenged. “How long ago was that? What year is this? And I still don’t feel like I got washed anyway, ni**a.”
There was also speculation that Kendrick was dissing Sean on “The Heart Part 4.” “My fans can’t wait for me to son ya punk ass and crush your whole lil’ shit / I’ll Big Pun ya punk ass, you a scared lil’ bitch,” he rapped on the 2017 track.
The origins of the newly-leaked clip are unclear. According to XXL, it may be from a demo version of Kendrick’s DAMN. song “ELEMENT.”
