West has a love-hate relationship with “SNL.” He has served as musical guest seven times. His last performance was in February 2016, when he performed “Black Skinhead” and “Ultralight Beam” off The Life of Pablo. During the live broadcast, he reportedly had a meltdown backstage, which was caught on tape, and threatened to walk off the show.
The performance arrives on the heels of Kanye’s latest hit “I Love It” with Lil Pump, which debuts at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100. His album ye opened atop the Billboard 200 in June, becoming his eighth consecutive No. 1 on the chart.
