Kanye West’s old lyrics are making new noise.
Last month, a snippet of a demo of Pusha-T’s Daytona track “What Would Meek Do?” leaked featuring previously unheard lyrics aimed at J. Cole. “You heard Cole on that song, he was tryna hate,” Kanye raps on the song.
Now, an extended version of the track has surfaced via HipHop-N-More, which finds Kanye referencing Drake as well. “I be thinkin’, what would Tupac do? / You be thinkin’ what New Kids On the Block do?” he raps. “Drizzy wearing Yeezys on the low though / Only repping Nike for promo / The company growing faster than Flo-Jo / And we did it with no logo.”
Drake was rumored to be in talks with adidas, who is in business with Kanye. However, the deal never materialized and Drake remained loyal to Nike, even rapping “Checks over stripes, that’s what we like” on Travis Scott’s “Sicko Mode.”
The line seemed to anger Ye. In December, he put Drake on blast on Twitter. “How you gone be on Trav’s song coming at me. Trav should have never allowed that,” he tweeted. “Been trying to meet with you for 6 months bro You sneak dissing on trav records and texting Kris talking bout how’s the family.”
In September, Drake referenced Kanye’s popular Yeezy 350 sneakers on French Montana’s “No Stylist,” where he rapped, “Keepin’ it G / I told her don’t wear no 350s around me.”
During a recent interview with David Letterman for Netflix’s “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction,” Kanye addressed his feud with Drake. “An artist which I will not mention, because I’m not allowed to mention him or any of his family members,” he said before mentioning Drake by name. “Well, we had a little beef last year.”
While the snippet may be old, a new Kanye track called “Brothers” featuring Charlie Wilson is set to debut during the season premiere of Irv Gotti’s BET anthology series “Tales” on July 2.
