Kanye West Housing Project Could Be Torn Down

Kanye West’s new housing project is in jeopardy of being torn down.

The futuristic, egalitarian community that is being built on the 300 acres of land he owns in Calabasas has encountered issues with the L.A. County Dept. of Public Works. According to TMZ, inspectors visited the four dome-like prototype structures after several neighbors complained and determined the project violates the building code.

On July 18, one of the neighbors contacted the Dept. after reportedly hearing construction on the property late at night. An inspector came out and spoke with the site manager, who said the domes were part of a “production” and were only temporary. Building permits are not required for temporary structures.

The Dept. received a second complaint of construction noise about a week ago. The inspector came out again, and noticed that the domes were sitting atop a concrete foundation and determined they did not appear temporary. As a result, plans and building permits are required.

Kanye and his team have 45 days to secure property permits. If they don’t submit plans and get building permits by Sept. 15, the structures must be torn down.

A source close to Kanye tells TMZ that the structures were always intended to be temporary. The concrete base was necessary to secure the structure for safety reasons, but will eventually be removed along with the prototypes. They have been in touch with the County and intend to comply with the requirements.

Kanye has been building the dome-like structures with the hopes of revolutionizing the design for new age homes and breaking down class barriers.
