J. Cole Celebrates Cardi B, Jay Rock, & Future’s Grammy Wins

J. Cole’s album KOD may have been shut out of this year’s Grammy nominations, but he’s not a sore loser.

The “Middle Child” rapper took to Twitter to congratulate this year’s winners including Cardi B, Jay Rock, and Anderson .Paak. “i don’t never wanna be propped up by tearing somebody else down,” said Cole. “Seeing Cardi b win a Grammy make me feel like I won. Same with jay rock and Anderson.”

He also shared some uplifting words for Travis Scott, who lost his two nominations for Best Rap Album and Best Rap Performance. “I feel for Travis cuz he really deserved that acknowledgement as well, but his moment is way bigger than the awards could say,” added Cole.

The North Carolina MC reflected on how he felt about awards early on in his career and how he later realized that he didn’t need them for validation. “I went through a lot of heart break the first half of my career, maybe even longer, cuz deep down I needed that validation that I thought the awards could bring,” he said.

He also shared an inspirational quote from Bob Marley that summed up his feelings: “My heart is at ease knowing that what was meant for me will never miss me, and that what misses me was never meant for me.”

He went on to congratulate Young Thug, Future, and Ella Mai on their first Grammy wins, and also shout out 6LACK, who lost Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for “Pretty Little Fears,” a nomination he shared with Cole.

“Seeing Thug get a Grammy incredible. Future too. been deserved. March madness was bigger than the Grammy’s,” said Cole. “And congrats Ella mai 👑. 6lack really deserved too, but don’t sweat it my brother. No award show could ever get it all the way right. Especially one that ain’t run by us.”

Cardi B, who Cole championed early in her career, thanked him for his support. “Thanks @JColeNC and everybody that was in the category had amazing albums!” tweeted Cardi, who took him the award for Best Rap Album.
