In a recent interview with GQ magazine, Kanye West shares his thoughts on music, fashion, and politics.
As of October last year, the rapper released his first all gospel album titled, Jesus is King. The Def Jam release accumulated a total of 264,000 sales in its first week and overtime accumulated 197 million streams and 109,000 copies sold as a full album. The album would be the rapper’s first Christian themed project, in the wake of his transition to salvation. After the release of his album, fans often wondered if the 42-year-old rapper would continue to make gospel hits or would he go back to his hip-hop roots.
“I was thinking of not rapping again because I rapped for the devil so long that I didn’t even know how to rap for God,” he told GQ. “Then one of my pastors told me, ‘My son just said that he would want a rap album about Jesus from Kanye West.’ He didn’t say, ‘Kanye West, you should do this,’ or ‘you need to do this.’ He just told me something that a child said. And that one thing made the difference.”
Fans hope to hear a “Jesus Walks” remix after hearing the rapper perform the song as apart of his Sunday Service set. With West now going back into gospel rapping, what are some Kanye classics that you would want to hear the gospel remix of?
