Iggy Azalea Wants Record Labels to Hire Psychologists

Iggy Azalea wants to hold record labels accountable.

Fresh off the release of her new album The End of an Era, the rapper has suggested that labels protect their artists’ mental health by hiring psychologists.

“I REALLY WISH record labels would all agree to make it mandatory to hire at least ONE psychologist per label,” she tweeted.

Iggy’s proposition is a response to the negativity she and her peers continue to face on social media. “Almost EVERY artist in recent times has expressed struggling with the level of hate & pressure,” said Iggy, adding, “Sports teams do it for their athletes, why not music labels?”

She said it would be “pretty easy” for the labels to implement the change, while calling out two of the music industry’s top executives, Universal Music Group CEO Lucian Grainge (Iggy was once signed to Universal’s Island Def Jam) and Sony Music Group CEO Rob Stringer.

“Between these two guys that’s literally like 85% coverage across the labels. See what I’m saying?” she said.

Iggy claims labels have invested in “20 deep teams of A&Rs that literally no one even wants in the studio,” but won’t prioritize their artists’ well-being. “Why won’t they do it?” she asked.

Her comments come in the wake of Lizzo’s tearful breakdown that was triggered by hateful comments she received online. Her fans and friends including Cardi B came to her defense amid the negativity.

“When you stand up for yourself they claim your problematic & sensitive. When you don’t they tear you apart until you crying like this,” said Cardi. “Whether you skinny, big, plastic, they going to always try to put their insecurities on you. Remember these are nerds looking at the popular table.”
