After being pulled from stages, DaBaby is beginning to be pulled from the radio. Billboard notes Dua Lipa’s “Levitating” remix that features DaBaby has dropped 20 percent in airplay and removed completely from some radio stations.
Prior to DaBaby’s controversial homophobic remarks, the song was played on 70.2 percent of radio stations but has experienced a sharp decline to 49.5 percent. After his comments, Dua Lipa spoke out against DaBaby.
“I’m surprised and horrified at DaBaby’s comments,” Lipa wrote on her Instagram story. “I really don’t recognize this as the person I worked with. I know my fans know where my heart lies and that I stand 100% with the LGBTQ community. We need to come together to fight the stigma and ignorance around HIV/AIDS.”
Following his remarks, DaBaby has been called out by everyone from Elton John to Demi Lovato. He also was dropped from numerous festivals including Governors Ball and Lollapalooza.
Prior to being removed from Lolla, DaBaby was supposed to deliver a video apology. Billboard reports representatives for DaBaby reached out to seven fall festivals that booked him, along with Lolla, and promised to film an apology before he hit the stage in Chicago. DaBaby would then miss the deadline and his “apology” that he tweeted was the only one that remained. “I ain’t trippin on y’all, do you. y’all business is y’all business,” DaBaby tweeted.
Following more festivals drops, DaBaby released a formal apology: “I want to apologize to the LGBTQ+ community for the hurtful and triggering comments I made,” DaBaby said in a formal apology. “Again, I apologize for my misinformed comments about HIV/AIDS and I know education on this is important. Love to all. God bless.”
