The man responsible for taking unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin in 2012 wants a massive pay day. George Zimmerman has reportedly filed a $100 million lawsuit against the Martin family centered on defamation.
According to reports, Zimmerman filed the lawsuit Wednesday with a publishing firm and law enforcement agency also named.
The lead defendant is Sybrina Fulton, Martin’s mother, who became one of the many pained faces of the Black Lives Matter movement in the wake of her son’s death. Zimmerman, tried and acquitted of homicide charges in 2013, now claims police and prosecutors conspired with Martin’s family to fabricate a narrative that cited what the Sanford, Fla., man alleges was false evidence. Zimmerman’s lawsuit reportedly cites a documentary for allegedly providing misinformation.
Zimmerman is represented by Larry Klayman, a high-profile legal crusader tied to conservative causes and the founder of Judicial Watch before splitting with the activist group. The Polk County Circuit Court suit cites information in a documentary about the case titled “The Trayvon Hoax” that accuses the Martin family of engineering false testimony, and the director has scheduled a press conference this week in Coral Gables to coincide with a film screening there. The Martin family has already responded to the headline-generating suit.
