Freddie Gibbs and Madlib have released the third single (and first music video) to their upcoming Bandana album. A follow-up to 2014’s Pinata, the major label-backed Bandana is arriving on June 28 via Keep Cool/RCA Records. The upcoming collection of songs is confirmed to feature Killer Mike, Pusha-T, Yasiin Bey, and Black Thought, among others. Following February’s “Flat Tummy Tea” and March’s “Bandana,” “Cr*me Pays” proves that this new music from this dynamic duo is worth the wait. The video pulls from 1970s “grind-house” cinema, especially Westerns. Gibbs presents his visions of a nice life after Rap and the streets. The video’s opening flashes back to early 2012’s “Thuggin'” visual as a nightmare from the past. He tends to his zebras, bathes in hot springs, fishes in streams, and enjoys his romantic partner on “Mt. Kane.” Freddie Gibbs Explains Scarface’s Genius In His Favorite Rap Verse (Video) In between the montages of a life of leisure, the nostalgic Madlib beat pauses while Gangsta Gibbs offers some comedy as he bosses around his farm staff. Although the setting is picturesque nature, the rhymes are concrete. Freddie does not deviate from his accounts of hustling, no-strings-attached love, and stacking paper through the treachery. However, even from a remote location, the ESGN leader is still tuned in to the grind. He’s got bundles in the bundles of hay, as it were. The zebra theme, as seen on the artwork for Pinata, continues with this album’s cover (courtesy of Jeff Jank) and visuals. Audiophiles can obtain Bandana on vinyl and CD approximately one month (July 27) following the digital drop. Injury Reserve’s New LP Shows They Deserve A Spot In 2019’s Starting Lineup (Audio)
