Drake is putting his money where his mouth is.
The “Toosie Slide” rapper has stepped up to the plate and donated $100,000 to bail out protestors who are demanding justice following the death of George Floyd.
Toronto poet and musician Mustafa the Poet made a $400 donation to the National Bail Out program to bail out protestors before calling on Drake to match his donation “but add 3 zeros.” “Let’s help reunite black families,” wrote Mustafa.
It wasn’t long before Drake answered the call and posted a screenshot of his receipt with a $100,000 donation charged to his American Express. “Say less brother,” he told Mustafa.
As protests take place across the globe, National Bail Out and other bail relief programs have allocated funds to help protestors who can’t afford their own bail. The Minnesota Freedom Fund raised about $20 million in just four days.
Last week, Drake honored Floyd, an unarmed black man killed by a Minneapolis police officer, by sharing “Affirmation,” a poem by Assata Shakur. “Rest in heaven George Floyd ,” he wrote.
Other celebrities including Janelle Monáe, Kehlani, and G-Eazy have also made donations to bail relief efforts.
