DMX is heading back to rehab.
Taking to Instagram Saturday, the rapper’s team announced that he has checked himself into a rehabilitation program. “In his ongoing commitment to putting family and sobriety first, DMX has checked himself into a rehab facility,” reads the statement.
As a result, he has canceled a series of shows. “He apologizes for his cancelled shows and thanks his fans for their continued support.”
He received support from the hip-hop community including Casanova and Russell Simmons. “Love you and always will Keep your head up,” commented the Def Jam co-founder.
X was scheduled to perform Saturday at Three 6 Mafia’s reunion concert in Memphis and during Day 2 of Rolling Loud in New York on Sunday. Both appearances have been canceled.
DMX has had a long-documented battle with addiction. He’s been jailed numerous times for drug-related offenses and spent time in rehab throughout the years, including most recently in 2017. “House arrest wasn’t working for me, so I made the decision to do something positive and better for myself,” X told TMZ that year.
In January, the Yonkers rapper was released from a West Virginia prison after completing a one-year sentence for tax evasion.
DMX’s return to rehab is a setback for the hip-hop icon, who was in the midst of reviving his career. He recently signed a new deal with Def Jam and was working on a new album as well as a possible biopic. He also collaborated with Rick Ross and Swizz Beatz on “Just in Case,” the theme song for Forest Whistaker’s Godfather of Harlem crime drama series.
