Diddy is investing into his home of New York City with his pledge of $1 million to his Harlem Charter School Network. New York Post reports the opening of a third location of the network in the Bronx scheduled for next September.
A news release states Capital Prep Bronx will allow for 160 students in the sixth and seventh grades to enroll, with expansion up to 650 more over the course of five years.
“I came from the same environment these kids live in every day. I understand the importance of access to a great education, and the critical role it plays in a child’s future,” Diddy said in a statement.
“We don’t just teach kids to read, write and compute, we teach them how to make a difference and nurture them to be future leaders of our generation.”
The report states more schools will be open in the school. The Bronx opening was preceded by Capital Prep in Harlem and Connecticut.
Diddy shared excitement over the news on Instagram by thanking Dr. Steve Perry for his support, as well as faculty, staff, and students.
