Dave Chappelle and Kanye West have been friends for quite a while, in spite of their varying political views. During a show in Dublin, a fan asked the comedian to weigh in on Ye’s most recent meeting with Donald Trump, and Chappelle blames it on his mental illness.
“Honestly, all jokes aside, I felt like my friend is bipolar, and I felt like he was having a manic episode on television,” Chappelle said in leaked audio from the show, obtained by Too Fab. He prefaced the statement by explaining how well he knows ‘Ye.
“I gotta state my bias: I fuck with Kanye, he’s like literally a friend of mine. I had a lot of thoughts and feelings, and as you can imagine I got asked a lot about what happened in the Oval Office,” Chappelle said. On the other hand, other artists like Snoop Dogg, T.I., and 50 Cent weren’t here for it.
Dave concluded by saying that he still has faith in the rapper. “I don’t think [Kanye] forgot us. I trust him as a person of intent, I just think that this nigga is betting on the wrong horse. Lucky for me, I know him well enough to not take political advice from him. I’m keeping my Yeezys and I’m still buying the records, but when he’s on CNN, nigga, I’m turning the channel.”
Needless to say, Kanye has been making headlines for his undying love for our current, controversial President. During Ye’s meeting with POTUS, he revealed that he believes he was misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder and referred to racism as an “invisible wall.”
There’s no telling if Yeezy caught wind of what Dave Chappelle said about him, but when he does, we’re sure he’s going to let us know in a tweet.
