City Girls’ Yung Miami Shades Brandy Over Verzuz with Monica

It was a celebratory night as Brandy and Monica took fans down memory lane during Monday’s highly-anticipated Verzuz.

The three-hour livestream broke the Verzuz record on Instagram Live as over 1.2 million viewers including Michelle Obama, Mariah Carey, and Adele tuned in to watch the R&B icons play hits like “I Wanna Be Down,” “Don’t Take It Personal,” and their chart-topping 1998 duet “The Boy Is Mine.”

At one point during the evening, Monica brought up Yung Miami from the City Girls, Caresha Brownlee, while introing “Sideline Ho.” Brandy made a face as though she didn’t know who Monica was talking about before she clarified.

“My girl from the City Girls,” said Monica, prompting an apology from Brandy: “I should’ve known that. I’m sorry, Caresha.”

But Brandy’s mistake didn’t go unnoticed. Caresha’s name started trending on Twitter and she responded by throwing shade at Brandy. “I only know 2 Brandy songs so we even,” she tweeted.

She later deleted the tweet and said it was a joke. “I was just playing y’all damn I’m singing how you ever right now lol,” she wrote, incorrectly referencing Brandy’s 1998 hit “Have You Ever?”

Someone told her, “Keep it cute,” prompting Caresha to defend herself. “Bitch I’m playing hoe shut up,” she shot back.

The City Girls have been vocal about their love for Monica. Yung Miami was seen cheering and singing along to Monica’s hits on Instagram Stories during Monday’s battle. “Monica, let’s go!” she said. She even submitted a playlist of her favorite Monica songs to Monica in advance of Verzuz.

But she celebrated both women. “It was goooooooodddddddd they both did good,” said Caresha in response to a fan who said Brandy won.
