New York rapper Juelz Santana is going to spend the next two-plus years of his life behind bars. The hip-hop veteran received his sentence Wednesday (December 19) for carrying a gun to a New Jersey airport earlier in the year.

According to reports, Santana will have to serve his entire sentence and not get parole.

Passaic County rapper Juelz Santana was sentenced Wednesday to 27 months in federal prison for bringing a gun into Newark Airport earlier this year. Santana, 36, of Totowa — whose real name is Laron L. James — must serve just about all of the sentence: There’s no parole in the federal prison system. U.S. District Judge Stanley R. Chesler also sentenced him to one year of supervised release. (Ridgewood Daily Voice)

A few months ago, Santana made headlines for getting busted at Newark Liberty International Airport.

James was arrested in March after security staff at New Jersey’s Newark Liberty International Airport found a loaded .38-caliber handgun and nonprescription Oxycodone pills in a carry-on bag containing his identification. He abandoned his luggage and left the area, but turned himself in three days later. (Pitchfork)

Back in April, Dipset member Jim Jones addressed Santana’s publicized New Jersey airport arrest and his protégé’s state of mind just days after getting released on bail.

“Juelz is doing good. I mean, we talk about the bigger scheme of things. He’s in a bad situation but his spirits are up. He was smiling. He’s glad to be back home with his family, with his kids, with his mom, his brothers. It’s nothing like being home and going through some realities in life that make you straighten up and focus at all costs. He’s in a hell of a situation but you know we always say our prayers, we hire great lawyers and we put it in God’s hands. He’ll be alright. Never want to be mad at Juelz. He piss you off sometimes – he’s got the little brother syndrome forever. Me and Cam was laughing the other night. We got like a high school mentality forever. We’re just stuck in that realm. Juelz is always like 16 to us but he’s a grown man. We gotta stop that sh*t. But overall he feels good. He understands he’s blessed to be out on bail and he’s got a chance to work again and the best thing he can do right now is get in that studio, work, get his music out and start making some money and get back reacclimated to the game and let’s do this Diplomat thing – you hear what happened but you don’t know what happened. I can just tell you that. There’s always more to it. There’s three sides to every story but that’s not my situation to talk about. I’m just happy that he’s out to make some money for his family and make some money for his lawyers and get a second chance and all that. He’ll be alright.” (“The Angie Martinez Show”)

Weeks prior, Santana came forward to speak out on getting released from jail after spending weeks behind bars on an airport incident charge.

“It’s just a beautiful thing. I’m just happy. You know, it was in God’s grace, I was praying everyday. He came through for me and my lawyer of course and the family held it down. Things are looking good. I just gotta do the right thing, do everything I have to do and try to stay home – I’m putting everything into God’s hands right now. I was preparing for a whole bunch of new music to come out right before this happened. I wasn’t expecting this to happen because it wasn’t so, at the end of the day, I’ve got a bunch of music that’s already stacked up. I’ve got a bunch more than I’m about to hopefully, if I could, get to the studio and record it.” (North Jersey)
