Boosie Badazz is speaking out in the wake of his controversial comments about Dwyane Wade’s transgender daughter Zaya.
Earlier this month, the rapper came under fire for making transphobic remarks about Wade and Gabrielle Union’s 12-year-old child, prompting backlash on social media. In an interview with Baller Alert, Boosie explained why he decided to weigh in and revealed that even his mother wasn’t happy with him.
“That’s just how I felt. People gotta understand that’s how I feel…” he said. “Even my mama, my mama got on my ass yesterday. My mama called me early in the morning and got on my ass, talking about, ‘Stay off social media! That’s they family! You stay out people’s business…’ But I was just speaking how I felt. Everybody got their own opinions in life. Everyone feels a certain type of way about certain things, and I just sometimes be the one to talk about it. When kids involved, it’s tender to my heart.”
While Zaya received a great deal of support, Boosie criticized Wade for supporting his child, who revealed she identifies as female. “I gotta say something about this shit, bro. Dwyane Wade, you gone too fucking far, dawg,” said Boosie in his Instagram video. “That is a male. A 12-year-old. At 12, they don’t even know what they next meal gon’ be. They don’t have shit figured out yet. He might meet a woman, anything, at 16 and fall in love with her. But his dick be gone-how he gon’-like, bruh, you going too far, dawg.”
When asked how he felt about the backlash, he said it comes with the territory. “I’m used to it. Once you’re a celebrity, you gotta deal with what comes with being a celebrity,” he said. “You gotta be ready for a hundred eyes and all that stuff.”
In hindsight, he acknowledged that he shouldn’t have criticized Wade’s parenting skills. “But when I feel you’re wrong, you’re wrong,” added Boosie. “People have told me how to parent my children when I was wrong. I’ve been told by my family that I’m wrong.”
He doubts he will ever speak with Wade in person, but he doesn’t regret his decision to speak out. “It’s probably a tender situation to him, so he probably don’t wanna get in contact with me,” he said. “But I said what I said. I don’t hold my tongue for nobody. If that was Barack Obama, I would’ve said the same thing. I’m built like that.”
In addition to Boosie, Young Thug criticized Zaya’s decision to live her life as a female, while Cardi B shared her support for the 12-year-old.
Boosie revealed that he was kicked out of Planet Fitness as a result of his comments about Zaya. He called for a boycott of the company, but now admits that maybe that wasn’t the best decision. “I feel like they ganging up on me. I should have shut my ass up,” he said. “Everything happens for a reason. If I wouldn’t have said it, nobody would have said it. A lot of people feel what I said, completely. I got a lot of bad backlash, but I got a lot of people who feel the same way with what I said.”
