Beyoncé stopped the world once again with the release of her Netflix documentary and surprise companion album, which both arrived on Wednesday.
Homecoming: The Live Album contains 38 live cuts from her historic Coachella performance plus two bonus tracks including a cover of Maze featuring Frankie Beverly’s “Before I Let Go,” which plays during the closing credits to Homecoming: A Film By Beyoncé.
The latter, a remake of the 1981 single, was produced by Tay Keith (Travis Scott, Drake) and features the HBCU-styled marching band sound that inspired her Beychella set, mixed with Bey’s powerhouse vocals, and an interpolation of Cameo’s ’80s hit “Candy.” Queen Bey even adds her own original lyrics to the summer-ready jam.
“I pull up to Coachella / And boost with the ghost fellas,” she sings over drums and horns. “I brought the squad with me / Black on black bandanas / D’USSÉ and champagne / I did the damn thing.”
Prior to Beyoncé, Destiny’s Child recorded their own cover of “Before I Let Go” in 1997, but it was never officially released. Homecoming: The Live Album also features an alternate studio version of the chopped-and-screwed “I Been On.”
