Angie Martinez is recovering after a severe car accident.

The iconic radio personality, known as “The Voice of New York,” suffered a fractured lumbar and shattered vertebrae and had to be hospitalized. Taking to social media Monday, the 48-year-old Martinez opened up about the scary crash.

“I’ve always believed in angels and mine was with me the other morning. I was in a severe car accident and sustained a fractured lumbar and shattered vertebrae,” she told her followers.

While the road to recovery is long, she remains in good spirits. “I’m recovering and will be for some time, but I am extremely grateful to have the opportunity to do that,” she added. “Wanted you all to hear it from me first and know that although this is a difficult time, I am in the best spirits possible and determined to be back and better than ever soon! God bless and I deeply appreciate all love & prayers.”

Martinez received support from her friends including fellow radio hosts Sway Calloway and “The Breakfast Club’s” Angela Yee, DJ Envy, and Charlamagne Tha God. “Just finished putting a prayer in the air for you!!!” said Charlamagne. “Sending you positive energy, love, and light Queen!!!”

Martinez has been a fixture on hip-hop radio for more than three decades is currently the host of “The Angie Martinez Show” on New York’s Power 105.1 as well as WE tv’s “Untold Stories of Hip Hop.”
