Amerie is back. Nine years since her last full-length release, the R&B songstress returns with two new albums.
The double project, released independently via Feeniix Rising Entertainment, consists of 4AM Mulholland and After 4AM. A combined 13 tracks in total, the set features a darker and trippier sound than her past work, while remaining true to her R&B roots.
“I love my projects to be very sonically cohesive,” the 38-year-old singer told Billboard. “As I was recording, I wasn’t trying to limit myself in any way, I was feeling very, very creative—I had just came off of writing a new story and I wanted to go full-out into the recording process. I didn’t want the album to be a smorgasbord of sound, it needs to have a vibe and that’s why there’s two projects.”
In the time since 2009’s In Love & War, Amerie (formerly Ameriie) has written several fantasy novels, edited a 2017 anthology of young-adult stories, married manager Lenny Nicholson, and become a mother to son River in May. In 2016, she released her Drive EP and most recently remixed Swae Lee’s “Guatemala.”
