Alter – “Good Day’s Work”

Exhaustion, the grind of survival in America, and the cynicism it engenders, check out the new single by N.Y.C. native Alter. The son features sampling of a 1969 meeting between the Black Panthers and the Young Patriots, a group of redneck transplants in Chicago who decided to work with the Panthers after realizing their common struggles for decent housing, an end to police brutality, and self-determination. Together with the Puerto Rican organization the Young Lords, they formed the first Rainbow Coalition. The sample ends on a note of ambiguity, questioning whether the listener, or the narrator (Alter) will really do what is necessary to organize and change their lives.
