Political activist Al Sharpton can’t co-sign Travis Scott landing a huge Super Bowl LIII halftime performance slot. The veteran civil rights leader has explained his issues with Cactus Jack co-headlining next year’s championship game.
New footage has emerged of Sharpton scolding Scott for siding with the same organization accused of blackballing NFL free agent Colin Kaepernick.
“I think anyone that goes into the halftime show is in effect directly violating those that want to raise the question that the NFL should come to terms with what they have done and continue to do to Colin Kaepernick and those that protest on criminal justice issues. You can’t tell people to stand for those that take a knee and don’t go to the games and then say ‘but somebody ought to perform there and entertain.’ You’re drawing TV viewers, you’re bringing supporters, and I think that you can’t have it both ways.” (TMZ)
This week, reports surfaced suggesting music mogul JAY-Z had reached out to Scott about reconsidering the Super Bowl performance.
Two sources also tell Variety that Jay-Z — who has been highly critical of the NFL over its treatment of former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick — is attempting to talk Scott out of performing, although reps either declined comment or could not immediately be reached. (Variety)

A few days ago, reports developed about Scott landing the performance slot with rockers Maroon 5.
Travis will join M5 during the halftime show in Atlanta on February 3. It’s arguably the biggest gig in music, with historical performances over the years. It’s a monster move … Travis has the hottest tour going, a huge single with Drake and he’s generating big Grammy buzz. (TMZ)
