Akon reportedly inked a $6 billion construction contract with United States-based engineering and consulting firm, KE International, to build his city his Senegal, according to PRWeb.
The first phase of the cryptocurrency-themed city is expected to be completed in 2023. It will include the construction of roads, a Hamptons Hospital campus, Hamptons Mall, a police station, a waste facility, a school, and a power plant.
Phase 2 is scheduled for 2029 and will integrate businesses to run on Akon’s AKOIN cryptocurrency. The Senegalese-American rapper’s city will also include a stadium, universities, and an industrial complex in Akon City.
The “Locked Up” rapper partnered with US-based Kenyan entrepreneur and Investor, Julius Mwale. Akon also has blessings from the President of Senegal, Macky Sall, who will grant the city tax breaks geared to encourage companies to invest.
Akon City will operate 100% on renewable energy and will be a Leader in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified city.
The entire construction is expected to be completed in 10 years.
