Jeremih is out of the woods and on the road to recovery after contracting coronavirus.
The Chicago singer has been transferred from the intensive care unit at the Chicago hospital where he was being treated and is now recovering, his family tells TMZ. He will spend the rest of his recovery in a regular hospital, where the “true healing” is set to begin.
This is a big improvement from last week when the 33-year-old had to be placed on a breathing ventilator due to complications from COVID-19. He was reportedly “fighting for his life” and the prognosis was grim.
Earlier this week, his family told CNN that the virus had “viciously attacked his body” and that his experience is “rare for a young man his age without underlying conditions.”
They also urged others to take it seriously. “His family would like to remind the world that COVID-19 is real and not to be taken lightly,” read the statement. “Also, it’s important for people infected to quarantine and let their families and friends know ASAP. There’s no shame in contracting COVID-19, and people that have it need to be responsible and considerate of others.”
Jeremih’s celebrity friends including 50 Cent, Chance the Rapper, Big Sean, and Hitmaka have been rallying behind him, sharing their prayers on social media.
It’s unclear if Jeremih still has the virus, but it appears that he will be OK. His family thanked everyone for their thoughts and prayers and acknowledged the “great team of doctors and nurses” for helping him pull through.
