Q&A With Rising Atlanta Based Hip Hop Artist Vish-K

What motivated you to create your style of music?

My motivation for my music is “life.” Looking at it not from “face value,” but understanding there’s more to this than meet the eyes.

How did you come up with your MC name Vish-K?

My stage name “Vish-K,” came about when I was studying “Hinduism,” at the time. I was more into spirituality than religion at this point, and I read about one of their major deities known as “Vishnu.” I resonated with it heavy and thought to myself, “I want to operate on my highest level daily.” Of course that’s not easy, but I can strive for it, so I took the “Vish,” and joined it with “K,” which is short for my “government” Kevin, and long behold “Vish-K,” was born.

Who are your biggest Hip Hop influences?

This is tough because there’s so many legends, but the ones most influential to me as an artist has to be Tupac, Jay-Z, Biggie, T.I., and Nelly.

How is the underground sound out in ATL right now?

The underground music in Atlanta is “lit,” I love it! As an artist I love to hear the new creativity by other artist, it inspires me to come back even more better.

How are you dealing with this whole nationwide lockdown due to Covid-19 CoronaVirus? Has this affected your music career in any way?

Honestly we’ve never seen anything quite like this before so I’m hopeful for the best, and still say “2020 and beyond my year.” As far as the affect it definitely interrupted normal everyday movements like networking, performances, and things like that, but I’m a big believer that everything happens for a reason so I don’t let it stress me to that affect.

You recently dropped a new EP “Lucky Turned Favored” across all streaming platforms! Please give us some background on that project!? Could you tell me the inspiration behind the project and artwork?

Yeah so with “Lucky Turned Favored,” I wanted to bring the fans into my world. Feel and resonate with my different sound and know I still have a story to tell that’s inspirational and you can also learn a thing, or two if you listen. Also I went thru life with an upbeat spirit, so people around me would see positive things, and would say “Your just lucky,” and I remember me vividly replying “I rather be lucky than nothing at all.” Through out the years it stuck with me, but instead of just being lucky, I claimed I’m favored by the “most high.”

How does social media play a role in pushing Vish-K music?

It helps to get the sound, if nothing else out there. Fans have to at least hear something first to know if they digging your campaign or not.

What are a few different moves you’re making for 2020 when it comes to your music career?

Networking I want to position myself with people who make things happen in the music industry, and cab get me heard globally because that’s the goal.

We have to ask, with all this social discourse and revolt, protesting and rioting, exposed police brutality toward blacks and BLM, how do you feel about this?

We would love your perspective on the climate we are living in right now? I feel bitter sweet about this subject because it’s a two-way street. In one hand I’m glad it’s in the forefront finally because police brutality been happening to people of color. On the other hand thou you know “propaganda” is real so you have to be careful before you just jump into action without fully understanding what the outcome will be.

Our most popular question….What is your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?

Underground hip-hop to me is the music thats not heard commercially, and is usually done by Independent artist such as myself.
