This new project is a 7-track effort starting off with a raw banger titled “Not What You Think” (what I am) giving us a solid tour guide into his mind, subject matter and what matters to him the most “Things That Matter”. We also have to mention the extremely eye-catching album cover art, keeping the uniformity to the overall message and what this album is about. Free The Artist’s lyrical abilities definitely is on a very high level, along with his amazing story-telling ability, mix this up and you get a all-around solid emcee out of Compton. The track that I feel stands out the most has to be “Believing” (what I speak), this track I had to put on repeat for at least 1hr straight!
The album boasts a very talented production sound with properly hand-selected beats, and to be honest, Im not to familiar if these beats are either self-produced or otherwise. Regardless of the fact, all this beats are true heavy-hitters, the album carries a classic East Coast bass/boom bap heavy underground sound. More noteworthy tracks that I have to point out are “Living” (what I see) and my favorite “Dear Compton” (what I love), definitely living up as a new artist and embracing the next-level limelight. This project is fearless, in-ya-face and so West-Coast. It’s the making of a classic effort by the Compton-native that fans will be talking about for decades.
