Maybach Music Group rapper Meek Mill isn’t playing around with the coronavirus crisis. The hip-hop veteran has updated fans on his family’s condition after a possible encounter with COVID-19.
Big Facts
Meek Milly went to his social media pages this week to break some big news. The Philadelphia native admitted his uncle might be dealing with the virus.
“My uncle called me from the hospital sounding like he critical condition from COVID-19. He just was healthy weeks ago! Don’t go outside and walk a deadly virus in the house with your family! (fallback) Please. Co-VID hitting family members and friends. Now… go in the house!”
High-Key Details
According to Tuesday reports, Meek’s Roc Nation partner JAY-Z and Rihanna have teamed up to help a slew of people directly impacted by COVID-19. The duo’s efforts will also push for free coronavirus testing to all residents in both New York and Los Angeles.
Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation (CLF) and the rapper’s Shawn Carter Foundation (SCF) will support undocumented workers, the incarcerated, homeless and elderly populations, and children of frontline healthcare workers in both major cities amid the pandemic. As New York City is considered the global epicenter of the crisis, the foundations will also advocate for free COVID-19 testing to all residents, regardless of status. They’ll directly support organizations in both cities, including the ACLU, New York Immigration Coalition, Mayor’s Fund for L.A. and Fund for Public Schools. (Rolling Stone)
“#PullUp @claralionelfdn・・・ A huge thank you to JAY-Z’s @shawncartersf for joining us in giving a combined $2 million to the #MayorsFundforLA #FundforPublicSchools @aclu_nationwide & @thenyic for COVID-19 response in support of undocumented workers, children of frontline health workers and first responders, and incarcerated, elderly and homeless people in the United States.”
Wait, There’s More
One of RiRi’s foundation executives came forward to confirm the power move. She also explained the importance of helping both residents and first responders with their efforts.
“There are a number of populations who are especially vulnerable during this pandemic — those who are undocumented, incarcerated, elderly and homeless, as well as children of frontline health workers and first responders,” says Justine Lucas, executive director of the Clara Lionel Foundation. “Now more than ever, we need to support organizations prioritizing the health and rights of these individuals.” (Billboard)
Before You Go
JAY’s mom and co-founder of the Shawn Carter Foundation has also spoken out. Gloria Carter discussed the importance of unity and providing both shelter and education during the COVID-19 epidemic.
“In times of crisis it is imperative that we come together as one community to ensure that everyone, especially the most vulnerable, has access to critical needs: shelter, health, nutrition, and education. The only way to get through this pandemic is with love and action.” (Billboard)
