Recently, Ne-Yo and his ex-wife Crystal Smith called it quits. In an interview with Joe Budden, Ne-Yo further elaborated on his feelings toward the divorce.

“Without incriminating myself, without incriminating her and without putting any negative connotation on this… I will say that neither one of us was exactly who we needed to be in order for this to last, and that’s why it didn’t,” said the singer. “That’s what it was. I own mine, she owns hers, and the craziest thing is there’s no beef, there’s no animosity, there’s no love lost because we both understand that.”

Joe Budden seemed to find difficulty in believing that there isn’t any beef between the two as Ne-Yo claims.

“I can’t speak on her decisions, I can only speak on the fact that there is no animosity here. We both understand that we have kids, and we have to raise these kids, and in order to do that we cannot allow ourselves to get to a place where we hate each other, we can’t let that happen for the sake of our kids. So there is no beef.”

Further in the interview, Ne-Yo explains that Crystal simply returned the ring to him rather than giving him a hard time because she wasn’t ever a “money petty” person.

The singer has now stepped back into the music scene with his new single, “Pinky Ring” featuring O.T. Genisis. Ne-Yo says the song is about taking lemons and turning them into lemonade.

“It is about a situation that anybody can use as an excuse to be down and feel a way, but instead, taking it and letting it be a positive thing. Not allowing it to bring you down,” said the singer.
