The documentary detailing sexual misconduct allegations against Russell Simmons has just lost an executive producer as Oprah Winfrey has stepped down. TMZ details Oprah will be going away from the documentary and also not allowing for it to make its way to Apple TV+.
“I have decided that I will no longer be executive producer on The Untitled Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering Documentary and it will not air on Apple TV+,” Winfrey said .”First and foremost, I want it to be known that I unequivocally believe and support the women. Their stories deserve to be told and heard.”
The main subject of the documentary was Drew Dixon who stated Simmons raped her in his apartment in 1995. Oprah states the doc will need additional work to “illuminate the full scope of what the victims endured and it has become clear that the filmmakers and I are not aligned in that creative vision.”
In December, Simmons wrote a post to Oprah about the documentary stating he would like to “get to work on uplifting humanity and put this moment and old narrative behind us.”
