After delaying his tour until 2020, Chance the Rapper stopped by “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Wednesday for a performance and interview.
The father of two sat down to discuss the “fresh” arrival of his week-old daughter, Marli Grace Bennett. “I love her, so that’s dope,” said Chance, who postponed his tour to focus on his family.
The 26-year-old recounted the story of how he met his wife Kirsten Bennett. “Definitely before I was successful, she was my girlfriend for sure,” he told Ellen.
The talk show host praised him for giving back to his community, including his $1 million donation to Chicago Public Schools. “My parents since I was young definitely instilled in me to like, when you see people in need you don’t just want to pass them by, you want to try and do something beneficial to them before you leave,” he said.
Ellen also presented Chance with matching overalls for his entire family, including Marli the Baby, and a plaque from Spotify for passing 1.5 billion streams with his mixtape Coloring Book.
Plus, Lil Chano took the stage to perform the uplifting “Eternal” off his debut album The Big Day. Donning a black-and-white tuxedo, he delivered synchronized moves with his two dancers in a performance straight out of a ’90s R&B video, while Smino popped up to deliver his verse. Ellen even joined him at the end, wearing a matching tux.
