Live from New York, it’s Khalid.
Less than a month ahead of his highly-anticipated album Free Spirit, the 21-year-old singer-songwriter made his “SNL” debut this weekend. Following an introduction from host Idris Elba, the El Paso, Texas crooner delivered the album’s Disclosure-produced lead single “Talk.”
Backed by three female singers and a band, he switched up the arrangement, starting off slow before picking up the pace. “Can’t we just talk? / Talk about where we’re goin’,” he asked while delivering the smooth rendition.
The Grammy nominee returned later in the show to perform his hit “Better” off his 2018 Suncity EP. Basked under blue lights, Khalid shined liked a diamond with his dreamy set, while his backup singers provided angelic harmonies.
The “SNL” appearance comes ahead of Khalid’s sophomore album Free Spirit, due April 5. Last week, he dropped another new song off the project, “My Bad.” Two days before its release, on April 3, he will debut a companion film at theaters worldwide.
