Kanye West Sues Roc-A-Fella, EMI Over Masters and Publishing

Following through on a rant he made last year regarding the ownership of the masters from early in his career, Kanye West has filed a lawsuit against his pal Jay-Z’s former label Roc-A-Fella Records, Island Def Jam Records, and EMI Publishing.

In October, West posted a video alleging that Sony ATV, the company that purchased EMI, would not allow him to buy the publishing back from his earlier recordings.

The litigation will address all of the companies involved and their rights to his music. It must also address the current agreements and obligations the famed rapper/producer/clothing designer has to both companies.

Yeezy called out Jon Platt and Marty Bandier about buying back his publishing, boasting that he has the money to buy himself out of the contracts.
