A former member of A$AP Mob is set to face trial overseas on Thursday following an alleged sexual assault from 2017. A$AP Bari will stand in front of a judge to fight the sexual assault case that comes with video evidence of the former A$AP affiliate harassing and attacking a woman in a London hotel. Bari was initially arrested for the assault in May 2018.
The leaked graphic video shows A$AP Bari, whose real name is Jabari Shelton, groping the young woman who pleads with him to stop before eventually following the scared, nude woman into the bathroom. The video’s release resulted in the loss of a Nike deal as well as banishment from the A$AP Mob. Despite the leaked video, Bari denies that a sexual assault took place.
Previous reports stated that although Bari did grope the woman, no sexual penetration accorded. If true, according to sexual assault laws in the U.K., A$AP Bari could face a maximum prison sentence of six months.
The VLONE designer recently had a separate sexual assault case dismissed in Los Angeles after the alleged victim refused to move forward with the investigation.
Following the release of the 2017 video, the 27-year-old A$AP Mob co-founder released a statement denying the allegations and making his case in the court of public opinion.
“Comments about myself or anyone being detained or arrested are false. We have resolved this issue amicably among all parties as adults. We were friends before this and will remain friends afterwards. Being raised by strong women who taught me to respect everyone, I’m disappointed in the situation as well as myself and will reflect on the situation appropriately.”
Both A$AP Ferg and A$AP Rocky condemned the alleged actions by their former partner with Rocky labeling Bari a “b—h” during a set in Long Beach while Ferg addressed the situation in a less expletive-laced statement on Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club.
“We don’t condone that kind of behavior,” Ferg said in the radio interview.
