Mustard Produced “Not Like Us” in 30 Minutes and Says He First Heard Song With Everyone Else

Mustard just revealed details about his involvement in Kendrick Lamar’s diss track “Not Like Us,” which unless you were under a rock, targeted Drake during the biggest rap beef the game has seen in years. Mustard, known for his distinctive production tag, clarified in an interview with Billboard that he did not sample Nas’ “Ether” for the track, despite fan speculation. “I definitely saw someone say that,” he noted.

Now get this, Mustard shared that he first heard the completed song along with the public. “I never heard it before. I wasn’t in the studio with him,” he explained. Reflecting on his creative process, he said, “When I was making it, in the back of my head, I was thinking, ‘What would Dr. Dre do if Lil Jon was in the studio and they were collabing on a beat?’” What ya’ll think? Cap or nah?

Mustard added, “It took me approximately 30 minutes to make that beat, and I didn’t know he was going to gas that beat like that.”

Here’s what’s next for Mustard. In addition to his work on “Not Like Us,” Mustard is gearing up to release his fourth studio album, *Faith of a Mustard Seed*, set to drop on July 26. The album will feature the track “Parking Lot” with Travis Scott, who recently previewed a snippet. Scott raps, “I’m high as a motherf**kin’ Scott, the rock/ I give her good d**k, the type it’s hard to stop/ The mashup sound make the artist drop.” This song will be released on June 21.

Mustard’s previous album, *Perfect Ten*, debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 and included collaborations with artists like Young Thug, Ty Dolla Sign, Ella Mai, Playboi Carti, and the late Nipsey Hussle. The album produced popular tracks such as “Pure Water” and “On GOD.”
