Kendrick Lamar rocked Hip-Hop when he made a rare social media appearance to announce his last album with Top Dawg Entertainment was on the way.
Tweeting out a link to oklama.com, K Dot stated: “As I produce my final TDE album, I feel joy to have been a part of such a cultural imprint after 17 years.”
He added, “The Struggles. The Success. And most importantly, the Brotherhood. May the Most High continue to use Top Dawg as a vessel for candid creators. As I continue to pursue my life’s calling.”
Following his announcement, TDE President Punch released his own thoughts on Instagram and Twitter.
“It’s funny when things change, because most of the time we automatically assume it’s something negative,” Punch opened. “Especially in this business. It’s rarely seen as growth. Growth is a great thing and it’s essential for life. Life happens in stages and this particular stage is almost complete.
“Kendrick is a generational artist who has accomplished so much and has contributed immensely to this thing we call Hip Hop. It’s only right for him to continue to evolve and build his own business and brand how he sees fit. In fact we encourage it! We want each and every artist we work with at TDE to build and grow and be self sufficient. That’s the whole point.”
Punch closed, “Also please remember that this is FAMILY and will always continue to be so. Album coming soon.”
Now we sit back and wait for “soon.”
