You’ll have to wait a little longer to spend An Evening With Silk Sonic.
Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak have decided to push back their joint album, which was originally slated for the fall. Silk Sonic’s debut is now slated to arrive in January 2022 because the duo decided it would rather release more songs and allow each one to have its moment before dropping the full body of work.
“I don’t want to be binge-watched,” Mars told Rolling Stone for the magazine’s September issue.
In March, they released “Leave the Door Open,” which hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, followed by “Skate” last month.
And they continue to perfect the album, which is nearly done. “We’re really in touch-up mode now,” shared Bruno. “We’ve got the bones of most of the album, so it’s really about touching up parts that need a little more….”
They’ve also been in the studio with legends like Bootsy Collins, who gave the duo their name, and Dr. Dre, who listened and gave feedback throughout the recording process.
The idea for Silk Sonic started five years ago as a joke and was later brought to life as a quarantine passion project. “I’m not sure we would have done it if it wasn’t for the pandemic,” revealed .Paak. “It was tragic for so many people, but Bruno would have probably been on the road, me too—but we had to be here.”
Silk Sonic was birthed from their struggle. “It all stems from pain and survival,” said .Paak. “We know it’s life or death for us, and we know what life and death means—we know what it’s like to be broke and to lose parents and to have parents that supported us and that battled addiction. We know what we’re up against, and this is all we have.”
With this album, they have one goal–to make people feel good. “If it makes us feel good, and resonates with us, that’s gonna be infectious and make other people feel good–and that’s our jobs as entertainers,” said Mars.
