50 Cent is keeping Pop Smoke’s memory alive.
The hip-hop mogul has announced that he will executive produce an album from the late Brooklyn MC, which he was working on prior to his death. Taking to Instagram on Sunday, Curtis told his 25 million followers of his plans.
“i’m on the move listening to Pop smoke, i decided i’m gonna executive produce and finish his album for him,” revealed 50.
His announcement received support from friends including Jeremih, Uncle Murda, and Pop Smoke’s manager Steven Victor. “Happening,” he told HipHop-N-More in the comments.
And he plans to make it a star-studded affair. 50 said he wants to get other big names involved including Roddy Ricch. “Tell @roddyricch i’m looking for him, i need him on Pop album,” said 50 in another IG post. It didn’t take long for Roddy to answer his call. “Say less,” responded “The Box” rapper.
He also put out a call for Drake (“@champagnepapi where you at ni**a, don’t start acting light skinned on us,” said 50) as well as Chris Brown. “yo ni**a im a need you on this record,” he told Breezy.
Pop Smoke was shot and killed after four men in hoodies broke into his rented Hollywood Hills home on Feb. 19. The investigation into his murder is ongoing. It’s unclear if he was the victim of a random robbery or if he was targeted. There have been no arrests.
In the wake of his death, 50 paid tribute to him on social media. “R.I.P to my man Pop Smoke, No sympathy for winners. God bless him,” said 50, who also wore a t-shirt in honor of the 20-year-old MC.
Pop Smoke released his mixtape Meet the Woo 2 last month featuring the single “Dior,” which became his first solo hit on the Billboard Hot 100, debuting at No. 49. He was also working on a joint mixtape with Quavo called Huncho Woo prior to his death.
