Actor Lakeith Stanfield Calls Out Lil Wayne Over George Floyd Comments

Many celebrities have recently been scolded by people on social media for their lack of support for the protests. Other celebrities have been scolded for basically saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. That’s the category Lil Wayne falls into.

A couple of days ago on an Instagram live broadcast with Fat Joe, he and Lil Wayne discussed the murder of George Floyd and the protests across the country. While people directed their anger towards the police, Wayne thought that the anger and violence should have been directed somewhere else.

“I think when we see these situations, I think we also have to understand that we have to get very specific. And what I mean by that is we have to stop viewing it with such a broad view, meaning we have to stop placing the blame on the whole force and the whole everybody or a certain race or everybody with a badge,” Wayne told Fat Joe. “We have to actually get into who that person is. And if we want to place the blame on anybody, it should be ourselves for not doing more than what we think we’re doing.”

Wayne’s comments sparked outrage on social media, and yesterday, Uncut Gems and The Photograph actor, Lakeith Stanfield, took to IG to scold Wayne as well.

In a now-deleted IG post, Stanfield posts a black and white picture of police officers at what seems to be a civil rights protest, with the caption, “Wayne stfu.”

Odell x Twitter

Beckham Jr. initially went to Twitter to speak up on the situations happening from throughout the East Coast. While Odell understands the anger, he said he couldn’t support violence as an option for getting justice.

“IM FRUSTRATED. More so because I don’t even kno how to speak or comment on this issue that’s been goin on for so long. Odell also went to Instagram to share some heartfelt words courtesy of Atlanta rapper Killer Mike. Beckham thanked him for the strong words about the violent protests currently happening in Georgia.

Before You Go

Heading into the weekend, New York rapper Cardi B hit up her social media pages with some initial thoughts on protests turning violent. She explained how after years of peaceful demonstrations, the message still has not reached law enforcement.

“Seeing people looting and going extremely outraged it makes me feel like, ‘Yes. Finally! Finally, motherf*ckers is gonna hear us now! Yeah! And as much as people are so against it, at this point, I feel like I’m not against it even though it do scare me and I don’t want anybody to get hurt. It’s just really frustrating, you wanna know why? Because police brutality been going on way before I was born but it has been more visual ever since social media started getting popping. And ever since, let’s say since Instagram started, that’s just one app – how many peaceful protests have we seen? How many trending hashtags have we seen? These hashtags freaking keep repeating themselves. I feel like I’ve done videos against police brutality, I feel like this is my seventh time. I’ve been doing f*cking police brutality was f*cked up and the only sh*t that’s changed has been my f*cking teeth. So it’s like, people are tired.” -Cardi B’s Twitter
